  A voice.....

  as some of you may have noticed i always include this quote with my signature - "why is it when we talk to god we're praying - but when god talks to us, we're schizophrenic?".

  i am poking some fun at this concept basically.

  however, a few years ago, driving in my car on the way to work, i heard a very clear, audible voice that was not mine.

  I'm a bit further "over the hill" than you are - I'm an atheist now after about 20 years in God's service. (HA!)

  I don't believe in the existence of a "spiritual realm" inhabited by anything. Do you?

  new to board

  i'm a married 24 year old male, i've been married for 2 1/2 years.

  my wife and i are in the process of trying to get out of the wts, presently we live on the east coast of the us, but are planning to move to the west coast in 6 months.

  Have you given any thought to contacting some of the people you disfellowshipped and asking their forgiveness?

  What about the others whose lives you 'touched" - the smart kids who you encouraged not to go to college, for example.

  It's nice that your eyes are beginning to open, but you have dues to pay. Take some responsibility.

  Met my first Elder after diassociation

  well i met my first witness (and it would have to be an elder who i always got on well with) last night after my disassociation 3 weeks ago and i was not prepared for how hard it felt.

  i had the most human reaction of recognising someone i knew and had to stop myself saying hi.

  he just rushed past me.

  One thing I've noticed is that invariably the DF'd person "plays along" with this mean game.

  Here's an idea: REFUSE to give them power in your life!

  When you run into ol' brother Puffy Pride at the local bar, greet him loudly and warmly!

  "Puffy! You always could drink Judge Rutherford under the table! How's it hanging, BROTHER? Hey, you still have a problem with child molesters in your congregation? Hey, Puffy, where you running off to? Let's talk about TRUTH and RIGHTEOUSNESS..."

  ...you get the idea... Give them an opportunity to demonstrate their superiority in public.

  Hi. Here's my opinion, but just so you know, I was a JW for about 20 years. Now I'm an atheist.

  You say your sis has a history of bad relationships. guess what? She just got into another one!

  While "technically" these two are not witnesses, they are already behaving as witnesses. they are practicing their lying and hypocrisy, and have already discovered that it only counts if you get caught. They are in the process of entering a morally bankrupt cult.

  By the way, JWs will tell you they ARE christian, so when your sis says she "still is" that doesn't mean anything.

  The harsh reality is that until the time that your sis and her boy toy get tired of the abuse they're about to receive, there is no way that you can do anything to convince them of their error. They have been taught that YOU, as a non-witness, are a servant ot SATAN and are bound and determined to see them perish when Armageddon comes. Armageddon was going to come in 1975, but it's running a bit late...

  It seems that you care for these two very much. for now though, there is nothing you can do except save yourself. by that i do *not* mean Jesus. I mean get an education, be physically fit and emotionally well balanced. Enjoy your time on earth, and do whatever you can do.

  i arrived at bethel in december of 1968 on a cold night.

  i had the taxi drop me off at the old columbia heights building.

  the door was locked so i knocked and was reluctantly allowed in by another bethelite.

  Without looking in a mirror, can you see what color your eyes are?

  You can't. Yet this is something easily apparent to anyone who looks at you.

  There are many other qualities that you have that you may not be aware of or may underestimate.

  Here's a fact: other people value you.

  Yes, maybe not all the people you wish would love you are in a headspace where they can.

  The world NEEDS you. It needs what only YOU can bring it. The thing is that YOU may be the last person to know what that is.

  Perhaps no one has ever told you this, so I will: you have permission to be yourself; you have permission to find your happiness; you have permission to find your own success.

  This permission doesn't come from some mythlogical creature, it doesn't come from some gang of old men, it doesn't even come from your parents. It comes from LIFE, from the fact that you exist.

  We all get a little achey from time to time. I hope your ache soon resolves.

  I started looking around on this board yeasterday, so I haven't had the pleasure of reading any of your posts before.

  I suspect that you and are are of the same JW generation. I got started when my Mom began dragging me to meetings in 1958. I'm a guy, but I know what you went through. I feel that there is a truely GREAT crowd of people like you and I who have survived the Witnesses. Yes, we're battered, tattered and torn, but we're still here. Do you apreciate how much the WTB&TS >hates< that fact?
